Upon graduating from San Jose State University with a Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design in 1997, Erik found himself at a crossroads between publication illustration and production art for entertainment. With video games being a hobby and passion since childhood, he quickly found himself working next to some very talented people in the video game industry. The work they offered was nothing more than freelance storyboard work for James Bond: The World is Not Enough: the video game at Electronic Arts.
After finding the game industry intriguing, Erik sought out an entry level 3-D modeling job on the team as well as a possibility for the opportunity to do conceptual art again on a video game. For the next two years, Erik would be trained by some of the best at Electronic Arts in 3-D modeling and texture painting. In 2000, he would find that he needed to challenge himself artistically and make the move to Sony Santa Monica Studios in southern California.
Kinetica would be the first title that Erik worked on involving character modeling, creating 3-D futuristic motorcycles for his first shipped title on the Playstation 2. With modest success, Sony shifted all resources into creating God of War in 2003. Surrounded by a solid team, Erik would be elevated to Senior Character Artist and go on to model many characters, including the main hero Kratos for the original God of War (PS2).
Erik would find himself again in 2005 modeling characters on the successful franchise sequel: God of War 2 (PS2), but this time with a unique opportunity to play a dual role on the project: visual development artist/character modeler. He would return to creating character concepts that he would later model in 3-D. Working with the best in the industry, Erik has found himself returning to that love of creating concept art, while learning the latest technological advances in 3-D modeling.
In 2007, Erik continues to work at Sony Santa Monica Studios on the highly anticipated title God of War 3 for Playstation 3.
